When I was in college I had a problem with writing. I was extremely self conscious that my essays would get graded poorly because of my bad grammar skills. Often for good reason, I was getting bad grades on my essays.
My essays were not coherent. My grammar was confusing. I was a D student in writing.
I couldn’t stand grammar classes. This came from a completely emotional place. When I was in 5th grade, we had a teacher in training teaching us grammar. Her lesson was on identifying nouns vs pronouns vs verbs. I was goofing and didn’t pay attention. She was calling on students 1 after another and I was super nervous. I had no idea what the answer was going to be. I guessed. I was wrong.
Because I was wrong, she made the entire class have homework and everyone was booing at me. I was so embarrassed. For years, I kept that with me and didn’t try to get better at writing. I HATED writing!
When I was in college I had to write essays for classes and it was damaging my class grades way too much.
I had to make a change. Interestingly enough, in high school I had taken 2 courses of public speaking. I was able to give a real good speech and I knew how to outline speeches. It just flowed. I had always been a good talker.
I started watching this series on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4E6B378A9B167B6F
What happened was amazing. It turned out I knew how to speak with perfect grammar. I wasn’t confused when speaking, but I was confused in reading and writing. I breezed through his courses and my grammar soared.
The confidence built up due to my other skills. It worked for me. Maybe this will work for you?
